Today the House Republicans passed their version of a health care plan. It is called the American Health Care Act (AHCA). Elizabeth Warren said today, “This isn’t football. It’s not about scoring points. #AHCA will devastate Americans’ healthcare. Families will go bankrupt. People will die.” This expresses my feelings perfectly.
I have cancer. I have had one round of chemotherapy and I was fortunate that my cancer went into remission. However, all my doctors have said that it will come back eventually. When that happens, will I be able to afford chemotherapy? We were devastated by the loss of a son to Neuroblastoma. He was almost 13. We paid over $250,000 out of pocket for expenses that were not covered by our insurance. We lived on credit cards. We went bankrupt. He died in February of 1994.
They do nothing to make drugs more affordable and at the same time deny us the right to get medication from Canada. Where is the competition? Corey Booker was one of several Democrats who voted no to allow competition in the pharmaceutical industry. He quoted the pharmaceutical industry’s line that the quality of drugs must be checked for quality. Really? Now we are caught between the rich and a bunch of idiots. Thanks Corey. PS. Corey Booker gets over $400 million in campaign donations from pharmaceutical companies. I am very disappointed in him.
These politicians don’t care about people like us. They only care about a notch on Ryan and Trump’s pole. He got a vote through the house. Now what? We must all be vigilant and call, march, send letters, whatever we can, to make the senate realize that we will not accept a plan that causes death. That’s not health care. The Republican candidates campaigned on a platform that claimed the ACA would create death panels. They were right! But its them not the ACA.
Take a look at my cemetery. (I spelled cemetery wrong), sorry. There are dozens of ways that the rich are affecting our lives. Clean water? Clean air? What about asthmatics? Bad air and skyrocketing medication costs. We are all on a death watch now.
